Policy Manual Special Gifts Committee
Composition of the Special Gifts Committee — The committee will consist of seven or more members. They will include two members from the session, one of whom will be chairman; two members from the board of deacons; one member each from the Presbyterian Women and the youth group; and one or more at large members appointed by the chairperson. The pastor will be an ex-officio member. The committee will elect its own secretary, treasurer, and other officers needed to facilitate its business..
Terms of Service — Members will serve three-year terms and be assigned to staggered classes to promote continuity. Members may serve up to two, successive terms before rotating off for at least one year.
Responsibilities of the Committee — The responsibilities of the committee will include the following:
- The committee will consider and determine whether to accept bequests and gifts from any source and for any reason. Any proffered gifts and bequests requiring any changes to the church structures, grounds, furnishings, and contents must be approved by the session.
- Any gifts or bequests that are not accepted by the committee will be returned to the donor with an explanation of the committee’s decision in a timely fashion.
- The committee will acknowledge all bequests and gifts given to Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church in writing in a timely fashion.
- The committee will maintain financial records and be accountable for all funds received for which it is responsible.
- Any bequests and gifts intended for the church’s general fund will be remitted to the church treasurer.
- The committee will administer the sale of the book A History of Mossy Creek Church. This responsibility will include filling orders, keeping financial records, and recommending appropriate fund distribution following the guidelines approved by the session. These guidelines prescribe use of the proceeds for “historical preservation and special Christian education projects.”
- The committee will ensure that bequests and gifts to be administered by other organizations within the church are appropriately disbursed and appropriately used. The committee will supervise the use of funds under its control in accordance with the donor’s instructions and intentions.
- The committee will recommend how those funds not designated for a specific purpose may be used by the church.
- The committee will act as the agent of the session in all other matters relating to gifts and bequests that the session assigns to it.
- The committee will be the administrator of the building fund in accordance with the building fund policy.
- The chairperson will report all actions of the committee to the session for their review and approval.
