Policy Manual Cemetery Committee
Organization of the Cemetery Committee — At least four members of the congregation are appointed to the cemetery committee annually by the session. Because membership on this committee requires specialized knowledge related to the cemetery, individuals usually serve as long as they are willing and able. The session seeks the advice of the existing committee members before appointing new members.
Responsibilities of the Committee — The responsibilities of the cemetery committee are as follows:
- Maintain the Mossy Creek Cemetery using income from the cemetery trust funds.
- Recommend the price structure of lots for both members and non-members of the congregation.
- Recommend guidelines for determining the eligibility of prospective lot buyers.
- Recommend guidelines for determining the types and sizes of gravestones, markers, plants, and other related items that may be placed on lots.
- Administer the sale of cemetery lots to qualified buyers and maintain records of ownership.
- Maintain records of occupied and unoccupied grave sites and lots.
- Consult with owners and monitor the actual placement of gravestones, etc., to insure compliance with lot boundaries and established guidelines.
- Make owners aware of procedures associated with lot usage and guidelines associated with gravestones, markers, plants, and other related items.
- Recommend to the session any necessary actions to expand and maintain the cemetery which go beyond routine maintenance.
- Make an annual report to the session and congregation which summarizes activities of the committee.
