This year marks the 240th Anniversary of the founding of Mossy Creek Church in 1768. The Session believed that this anniversary should be noted and the History Committee volunteered to present a suggested series of anniversary activities. All members of the Church and community are invited to celebrate the Christian heritage which has been passd down to us. Events planned include the following:
Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 3:00 pm
"Talks with Old Friends": A Walking Tour of the Mossy Creek Cemetery Individuals, both members and friends of Mossy Creek, in period costumes will represent past members of the church who are buried in the cemetery and will relate events in their lives and that of the congregation. The tour will begin at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary, will divide into groups to visits a dozen gravesites, and will return to the sanctuary to conclude the program. Pictures related to the people portrayed in the presentation will be on display. Light refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the observance.
Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 12:00 noon
240th Birthday Celebration Luncheon & Historical Collection Display Following morning worship, the congregation and friends of Mossy Creek will gather for a Birthday Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. Many items in the church historical collection will be displayed and members will be available to explain the historical connections. Members and guests will be invited to share stories about the history of Mossy Creek church and activities that have occurred there. Please bring covered dishes to share. Table service, drinks and desserts will be provided.
Spring 2009
History of Mossy Creek A four session series of talks about the history of Mossy Creek Church and the surrounding community will be presented. Each presentation, lead by Dr. William Blair, will last about 2 hours and will be followed by a time for discussion, fellowship and refreshments. Specific dateds will be announced.
